Let's face it! Smartphones have the smallest screen size, of all the existing devices. When you use your phone, you often tend to see it as a secondary device, until you arrive home to your computer. Why that might be? Is it because the internet speed? Is it because the poor performance? Of course not! It's only because of the screen size. In this scenario, many people tend to abandon certain activities on their smartphone, just to switch to another device. How to fix this? Well, designing bigger screen phones is not an option, because you can never compete to a 52 inches flat screen or even with a 15 inches computer. It's a phone after all.
What you can do is find and implement certain features that will improve the user experience, features that cannot be found on other devices. If the users have plenty of custom features, they will learn to ignore the screen size and stick to their phone. Of course these characteristics have to be customized, depending on the performed activity. Having customized features for activities like gaming, web surfing or watching movies will improve the user experience and will lower the abandonment rate.
